Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 players on Switch 2 face a responsiveness gap against PS5, according to Digital Foundry testing reported by Eurogamer. The measurements put Nintendo’s console behind Sony’s in both docked and portable multiplayer play, even though the Switch 2 version generally maintains its 60fps multiplayer target.
A measurable multiplayer gap
Digital Foundry measured multiplayer latency of 81 milliseconds with Switch 2 docked, compared with 49 milliseconds on PS5. Portable play averaged 100 milliseconds, with individual results ranging from 83 to 125 milliseconds.
The tests used wireless controllers on both systems: a Switch 2 Pro Controller and a DualSense. Those conditions matter when interpreting the comparison; the reported figures describe the tested setups rather than every possible controller configuration.
The practical concern is competitive responsiveness. Higher latency could disadvantage Switch 2 players in multiplayer, although these measurements alone do not establish how often it would decide an encounter.
Different targets for campaign play
Eurogamer reports that Digital Foundry was otherwise broadly positive about the conversion. Multiplayer runs at 60fps most of the time, while a television supporting variable refresh rate can make frame-rate drops less noticeable.
The campaign takes a different approach, with a 30fps cap and dynamic resolution. Docked play with DLSS targets 900p, but Digital Foundry observed drops to 450p during demanding sequences, including the Paris vehicle chase. Portable mode targets 720p and can fall to 360p.
The release also marks Call of Duty’s return to Nintendo hardware after Ghosts appeared on Wii U in 2013. For players weighing portability against responsiveness, the reported latency figures provide a concrete distinction between the Switch 2 and PS5 versions.
