Developer SebaaMG released ns2jb-modloader on November 3, 2026, offering an experimental way to load game modifications on Switch 2 through ns2jb. According to Switch2Unlock’s report, the tool was tested on firmware 23.0.1 using a regular microSD card.
The release gives Switch 2 modding enthusiasts a tool for replacing both game assets and executable code. Its reported capabilities come with limits: it requires an existing ns2jb setup, and its effects do not survive a console restart.
Game assets and code replacements
Switch2Unlock reports that the loader reads modifications from microSD storage. It supports RomFS replacements, covering files such as models, textures and game data, as well as ExeFS modifications that change game code.
Mods are arranged in separate folders for each game, following the layout used by Atmosphère on the original Switch. Modifications for multiple games can therefore be kept on the card at the same time.
Version 0.3.1, also released on November 3, addressed code mods failing in games with an installed update. It additionally introduced a warning when a patch is not applied, according to the report.
Restart and compatibility limits remain
The loader operates on top of ns2jb, which uses a SmileBASIC 4 flaw. It is tethered and must be loaded again after restarting the console. The reported README distinguishes it from custom firmware and says it includes neither cheats nor plugins.
Compatibility remains an open consideration. Some older Switch code mods may require changes for games that moved from 32-bit to 64-bit code, and microSD Express use has not been tested. The author reported testing version 0.3.1 with three games on an actual Switch 2; a warning appearing when ns2jb shuts down remains under investigation.
