Descenders targets Switch 2 as original Switch players await missing maps

Original article image from Nintendo Everything

Descenders is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 version, while players on the original Switch are also in line for additional content. According to Nintendo Everything’s November 3 report, No More Robots and Rage Squid announced the new console version alongside plans to bring previously missing maps to the existing Switch release.

The companies have not shared launch timing for the Switch 2 edition. The original Switch maps are described as coming soon, but the report supplies neither a specific date nor a list of the locations being added.

Two Nintendo versions, two updates

For existing Switch owners, the map announcement is the more immediate practical detail: support for that edition is continuing even as another Nintendo version enters development. However, the announcement as reported does not establish whether the two releases will ultimately have identical content.

It also provides no Switch 2 performance targets or technical specifications. Those details remain open, so the announcement alone offers no basis for judging how the game will differ on Nintendo’s newer console.

Downhill riding with changing terrain

Descenders centres on extreme downhill biking through procedurally generated environments, with jumps and slopes that change between runs. Its physics-based controls let players adjust their rider’s movements and perform tricks, while mutators provide abilities that can suit different riding styles.

The game also includes an online reputation system linked to unlocking bikes and clothing. Players can choose between Enemy, Arboreal and Kinetic, with team apparel, exclusive gear and rewards tied to reputation competition.

For now, the concrete Nintendo news is limited to the Switch 2 version’s development and the promised arrival of missing maps on the original Switch.
