Surface Laptop Ultra firmware targets restart and display faults

Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra

Microsoft has released a Surface Laptop Ultra firmware update addressing extended reboot times, screen flickering and unexpected restarts, according to TechRadar’s November 2 report. The fixes tackle several early complaints about the Windows laptop powered by Nvidia’s RTX Spark silicon.

The update appears in Windows Update as Microsoft Corporation System Hardware Update (200.0.7.0). TechRadar reports that distribution is staggered, meaning availability will vary between devices. Owners can also check through Help & support in the Surface app.

Restart fix gets an early endorsement

TechRadar cites Windows Central reviewer Zac Bowden as reporting that the update resolved the slow reboot problem he encountered. Bowden also said the update targets blue-screen crashes, although he had not experienced those on his review unit.

That distinction matters: the reported faults were not universal. TechRadar notes that some reviewers encountered flickering while others did not. Microsoft also warns that the firmware cannot be uninstalled or rolled back after installation, according to the report.

Broader concerns remain for PC buyers

The firmware addresses a narrower set of issues than those raised across launch reviews. TechRadar’s coverage also describes concerns about display ghosting, local dimming, battery life, and application and game compatibility on the Arm-based Windows platform.

For gaming buyers, the compatibility questions remain relevant beyond this update. The reported fixes do not establish that individual games will run correctly or that the display concerns have been resolved.

TechRadar additionally reports that Microsoft told Windows Central that Copilot+ PC features were not yet ready for the platform and were expected in the coming months. The immediate improvement is therefore a set of reliability fixes; the supplied report provides no confirmation that the broader feature and compatibility concerns have been addressed.
