Switch 2 ns2jb Report Raises Questions Over Zelda Preload Access

Original article image from Notebookcheck

The Switch 2 modding discussion is turning toward preloaded games, with Notebookcheck reporting that the ns2jb exploit could expose information from the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake before release. Its report describes possible data mining, while leaving significant questions about what can actually be accessed.

In its October 28 report, Notebookcheck says multiple buyers had reported receiving the remake’s Nintendo eShop preload ahead of a November 5 release. The download is listed in that report as 24.54 GB.

Encryption could limit access

According to Notebookcheck, much of the downloaded material is likely encrypted, with the decryption key unavailable until launch. That would create a substantial obstacle for anyone hoping to extract unreleased content through the Switch 2 jailbreak.

The outlet nevertheless suggests that file names and directory structures could offer clues even without access to the underlying content. It raises possible revelations about dungeon changes and dialogue, but does not establish that those details have been extracted from the preload.

File access has limits

Notebookcheck links the vulnerability to SmileBASIC 4, an application for the original Switch. It describes ns2jb as distinct from a deeper kernel exploit that would enable ROM creation and booting, making a playable pre-release copy a much less probable outcome in its assessment.

For readers following Switch 2 homebrew and jailbreak developments, the useful distinction is between inspecting accessible files, decrypting protected content and running a game. The report offers reasons to watch the preload, but it does not demonstrate that ns2jb has overcome all three barriers for Zelda.
