GTA 6’s Leonida aims to pair a vast map with more detailed places to explore

Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay reveal

Grand Theft Auto 6’s world is being described in terms of both size and density. According to PC Gamer’s October 29 report, which covers a feature in Edge magazine, Vice City and the surrounding region of Leonida are almost as large as the maps of Grand Theft Auto 4, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined.

That comparison offers a sense of Rockstar’s ambition, although the supplied report gives no numerical map measurements. It should therefore be read as a broad description of scale rather than a precise area calculation.

More attention inside buildings and beyond the city

Rockstar co-studio head Aaron Garbut told Edge that GTA 6 has “an order of magnitude more interiors” than the studio’s previous games, PC Gamer reports. The account does not provide an exact count or specify which buildings players will be able to enter.

Garbut also described extensive attention to individual locations, including back alleys. According to PC Gamer, the reception to sparsely populated stretches of GTA 5’s northern map helped inform the approach to Leonida’s outer areas.

The interesting question for players is how that work affects exploration. A larger landscape creates more ground to cover; detailed interiors and carefully developed outlying locations could give players more reasons to stop along the way. That remains an expectation based on the descriptions, rather than a finding from hands-on testing.

PC timing remains uncertain

For PC players, the world-building details do not resolve the platform’s release timing. PC Gamer says there is still no official word on when GTA 6 will reach PC. The report mentions a rumour about the wait, but provides no confirmed PC launch date.
