RPCS3 Compatibility Advances as H.A.W.X. 2 Reaches Ingame Status

Original article image from TechPowerUp

RPCS3’s compatibility list has reached another milestone, with no PlayStation 3 games remaining in its Loadable category. According to TechPowerUp’s November 3 report, the emulator team credited an SPU accuracy fix by contributor Yahfz with moving Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. 2 into the Ingame category.

The change clears a specific hurdle for the PC emulator: Loadable describes titles that display only a black screen, accompanied by a framerate counter in the window title. H.A.W.X. 2 was apparently the final game still carrying that classification.

A fix to SPU startup behavior

TechPowerUp reports that RPCS3 now recreates the SPU thread loader and the arguments that the PS3’s LV2 kernel places in Local Store when each SPU group starts, before loading the code image. According to the developers, reproducing that startup state prevents corruption of the loader.

The resulting compatibility upgrade means the game gets further, but it does not establish that H.A.W.X. 2 can be completed. Ingame status can still include significant graphical or other glitches and poor performance. The source does not confirm full playability for this title.

Progress beyond one game

The wider compatibility figures also show movement. TechPowerUp says the Playable share has risen from 75% in its July coverage to 80%, while approximately 22 titles remain in the Intro category, many associated with PlayStation Move.

This is also a repeat milestone: RPCS3 previously announced an empty Loadable category around the turn of 2023. For players following PS3 emulation on PC, the useful distinction remains between advancing into a game and having an experience classified as Playable.
