A fan has used mock gravestones to turn frustration with Electronic Arts into a physical tribute to gaming studios, according to Destructoid’s November 2 report. The publication describes a display outside EA’s Vancouver offices that its anonymous creator shared on Reddit’s r/gaming community.
The installation contains seven headstones, pairing studio names with dates and short epitaphs referencing their games. Among the names featured are Bullfrog, Pandemic, Origin, Visceral, Maxis and Westwood. The display’s dates and inscriptions represent its creator’s presentation; they should not be treated as independent confirmation of each studio’s corporate history.
A handmade tribute prompts debate
According to Destructoid, the creator assembled the memorial through cutting, painting, printing and taping. They presented it as an expression of longstanding frustration with EA and a way to remember developers whose work mattered to players.
The response described in the report mixed appreciation for the artwork with memories of games, including Origin’s Ultima and Westwood’s Command & Conquer. Some commenters also argued that EA’s financial support helped studios produce significant releases and that responsibility for creative decisions was more complicated than the memorial suggested.
The creator acknowledged that room for nuance while defending the tribute. They also said they would have included Mythic and Black Box with more time.
The display offers a compact example of how players use artwork to discuss the relationship between familiar studio names, beloved games and the companies behind them.
