A possible regional midnight launch for Grand Theft Auto VI has put New Zealand account settings in the spotlight. Notebookcheck reports that PlayStation Store countdowns suggest staggered access, potentially allowing some players to start up to 18 hours before their local unlock.
The November 2 report describes an expected launch pattern, rather than a confirmed worldwide unlock schedule from Rockstar. The claimed advantage depends on the game becoming playable at midnight in each relevant store region.
Why the PlayStation route is more complicated
According to Notebookcheck, Xbox players are considering changing their console location to New Zealand. The proposed PS5 approach requires more preparation: a New Zealand PlayStation Network account, a purchase through that account using a region-specific gift card, and console sharing and offline play enabled.
The outlet attributes that procedure to Synth Potato. It says console sharing should then allow access through the player’s original profile. That remains an expectation in the report, rather than evidence that the method has been tested successfully with GTA 6.
There is also an account-policy caveat. Notebookcheck says PlayStation Network prohibits accounts registered to countries where their users do not reside. That matters for anyone weighing an additional regional purchase against a possible earlier start.
Earlier access remains conditional
The report cites a timing chart posted by Videotech that places New Zealand’s expected unlock at 6 AM on November 18 for the US East Coast and 3 AM for the West Coast, ahead of the stated November 19 release date.
For players, the practical distinction is between a countdown suggesting regional timing and confirmation that an overseas purchase will deliver the expected access. The report provides grounds for watching the unlock schedule, but leaves that outcome uncertain.
