Melvor Idle 2 is getting an official RuneScape connection through Jagex’s partnership with developer Games by Malcs. The sequel builds on an idle RPG already inspired by RuneScape, but the branding does not mean its adventure will move into the MMO’s world.
According to PC Gamer’s November 1 report, Jagex’s announcement explicitly says Melvor Idle 2 does not take place in Gielinor. Instead, the publisher is extending official recognition to a game whose design draws from its MMOs.
A partnership with an existing history
The companies have worked together before. PC Gamer reports that Jagex became the original Melvor Idle’s publisher five years ago, without giving that game the same branding treatment. The sequel therefore expands an established relationship between the publisher and Games by Malcs.
That distinction helps explain the announcement: this is a closer association with RuneScape, while Melvor retains a separate setting. Players should not interpret the official connection as confirmation that the sequel shares the MMO’s fictional world.
A higher cap and no microtransactions promised
Reported changes include overhauled visuals and a level cap of 120. PC Gamer also cites an explicit commitment in the announcement that the sequel will have no microtransactions. That remains a stated plan, rather than a conclusion drawn from independent testing.
For players interested in RuneScape’s progression systems in an idle format, those are the concrete details to watch: the sequel’s presentation, its expanded leveling ceiling and how the announced monetization commitment carries through to the finished game.
