Soulframe’s November 6 PC alpha removes invitation requirements

Soulframe is widening access to its unfinished fantasy world on November 6. Digital Extremes’ free RPG will begin its Open Preludes public PC alpha, allowing players to join without the invitation codes or Founder’s Pack purchases required in earlier testing phases, according to Notebookcheck’s November 3 report.

The access change gives PC players a chance to try the project from the developer behind Warframe. It does not mark Soulframe’s full release: Open Preludes remains an alpha, with development still underway. Notebookcheck reports that Digital Extremes has not announced when the public testing period will end.

A fantasy world shaped by its struggle over nature

Soulframe takes place on Midrath, an island whose natural resources are being exploited by an invading industrial empire. Players become an Envoy, an ancient warrior who reconnects with spirits and opposes the invaders.

That premise underpins a mixture of exploration, combat, story quests, crafting and animal rescues. The report identifies Princess Mononoke and The NeverEnding Story as inspirations for the game’s nature-focused fantasy setting.

What the expanded alpha includes

Alongside broader access, the expanded test introduces environmental progression through Veilands, an Omen Wolf that players can recruit as a mount, and a new character pact. A headless horseman miniboss named Veltruska also joins the build, Notebookcheck reports.

For players deciding whether to take part, the distinction between an accessible test and a finished RPG is the key context. November 6 removes the previous access barrier, but the experience on offer is still a work in progress.
