A free demo of Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy arrived on November 2, giving Switch 2 players a chance to begin before the full release on November 12, according to Notebookcheck’s report.
The demo includes Sun-Speckled Terrace, the opening area of the main adventure, alongside two Dandori Academy stages. Progress transfers to the full game, so players can carry their early work forward. The demo requires a Switch 2.
A timed challenge alongside the adventure
Dandori Academy adds treasure-collecting challenges built around a time limit, with medals awarded for performance. Notebookcheck reports that Nintendo plans to release 72 stages over time, rather than making the entire selection available at launch. Exams are scheduled for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The Switch 2 edition also introduces sharper visuals and voice commands for Oatchi through the console’s built-in microphone. Dandori Battles support GameShare, allowing players to challenge friends who do not own the game.
For existing players, the purchase decision includes an upgrade route: owners of the original Switch version can buy a $9.99 upgrade pack. The full Switch 2 edition is scheduled for both physical and digital release. The original Pikmin 4 launched on Switch in July 2023.
More Pikmin projects accompany the release
The report also details Hello! Pikmin, an animated shorts series from Nintendo Pictures introduced during the October 31 Pikmin Day Direct. Episodes are scheduled monthly through Nintendo Today and other Nintendo channels.
Separately, Pikmin Bloom is due to receive a Secret Caves update this winter. Linking it with Pikmin 4 will let players earn special cave maps by taking Dandori Academy exams.
