Acer PC Owner Disputes Protection Plan Denial After RAM Troubleshooting

Original article image from Wccftech

An Acer desktop owner is challenging a protection plan claim denial after troubleshooting missing memory, according to a report from Wccftech. The customer alleges that Allstate rejected the claim because they removed and reseated RAM while investigating a fault that had already appeared.

The dispute concerns an Acer prebuilt PC purchased from Walmart with a three-year protection plan. Wccftech’s account draws on the owner’s Reddit post; the reported reason for the denial and the sequence of events remain the customer’s account.

Missing memory prompted the checks

According to the report, the owner noticed that the desktop was performing worse in games and showing only 16GB of memory rather than its installed 32GB. They removed and reseated the memory modules, then moved them between slots to determine whether a module or a motherboard slot was responsible.

The owner says those checks identified one nonworking RAM stick. They maintain that they were neither upgrading the computer nor replacing components, and that the system had stopped recognizing half its memory before they opened the case.

Customer challenges the basis for rejection

Wccftech reports that the owner reviewed plan terms excluding damage caused by certain unauthorized handling or repairs. Their objection is that the memory fault preceded the troubleshooting, and that Allstate had not explained how those checks caused damage.

The customer has filed a Better Business Bureau complaint and is appealing the denial, according to the report. The supplied account does not establish a final appeal outcome or include Allstate’s response.

For gaming PC owners, the practical issue is how a protection plan distinguishes an existing component failure from damage allegedly caused during diagnosis. This individual dispute does not establish that reseating RAM automatically invalidates coverage.
