Reported WebKit port could widen access to Switch 2 homebrew exploit

Original article image from Notebookcheck

A reported change to the Nintendo Switch 2 exploit ns2jb could make it easier for homebrew enthusiasts to access. According to Notebookcheck’s October 28 report, developer Sammy Hajhamid, known online as pepsipu, appears to have ported the exploit to the WebKit browser engine.

The development remains a reported claim. Notebookcheck attributes the information to Discord messages from Hajhamid that were picked up by OneJailbreak and discussed on Reddit. No public release date for the WebKit method is established in the report.

A possible route around the SmileBASIC requirement

The existing ns2jb method relies on a vulnerability in SmileBASIC 4, a game development environment released for the original Switch. Nintendo has since removed that software from the eShop, according to Notebookcheck.

A working WebKit port could remove the need for that additional software. Although the Switch 2 does not offer a full web browser, the report says it can access certain web content, potentially providing another entry point for the exploit.

Notebookcheck reports that the method works on firmware 23.0.1 and that the developer is seeking testers with older firmware. Those claims do not establish compatibility across other versions. A firmware update could also patch the vulnerability.

Deeper modding limits remain

The reported port would change how users reach the exploit, while significant restrictions remain. According to Notebookcheck, kernel access is still unavailable, persistent custom firmware cannot be installed, and the exploit must be run again after each console restart.

For Switch 2 modding, the potential benefit is therefore simpler access to homebrew experimentation. Whether that becomes practical for a wider audience depends on a public release and clearer compatibility information.
