Micro Center’s Printed PC Project Puts Component Fit in Focus

Editorial illustration of a conceptual 3D-printed compact PC enclosure and separate computer components on a workbench beside a living room.

A printable enclosure gives Micro Center’s compact SteamOS PC project its starting point, but fitting the hardware takes further planning. Published on September 18, 2026, the retailer’s firsthand build report documents a DIY project rather than an official Valve product.

A case shapes the component choices

The team used 3DCatt’s free SFF Mini ITX Steam Machine Case v2 design, intended for an ITX motherboard, SFX power supply and compact two-slot graphics card. Micro Center printed its shell on a Bambu Lab P2S.

Its component list includes AMD’s Ryzen 5 7600X3D, an ASRock B650I Lightning WiFi motherboard and an ASUS Radeon RX 9060 XT with 16GB GDDR6. Memory and storage comprise 16GB of G.Skill DDR5-6000 and an Inland QN450 500GB Gen4 SSD.

Assembly remains the useful lesson

Micro Center says fan placement needed another pass before power-button and USB wiring were finished. The video includes SteamOS installation, Cyberpunk 2077 and airflow checks, but supplies no exact frame rates or temperatures. For prospective living-room PC builders, the practical takeaway is to plan cooling and connections alongside component fit.
